Having a completely empty board is pretty intimidating. And at the rate we're going we won't see any RP's even if we wanted to. And who wants to start a thread for fear it will get 0 posts? My, that would be embarrassing.

Luckily for you all, I have no self respect! So I'll do it for you!

So here in this thread can go general discussion concerning our RP board. Want something run? Want to run something? Want to call someone out in a duel but don't know where to do it?

Consider this a staging ground for RP's to come. This way prospective GM's can get to know their audience and we can all get an idea of what's fun for us by discussing our wants, ideas, and generally what we find fun and not-fun. There you have it.

Hoi, what kind of system do we have for duels? Is it kind of a freeform thing? Some scale to gauge our characters against?

I don't mind writing up a character without a template, but I don't want to set any precedents if you've got preconcieved notions on how this is gonna go down, that you're not telling us about.

Nah. I'm a fan of the freeform style. Kinda like how we had it on the old BB2 before that server exploded...I'm looking for the fights between me and airpi and me and dice for refrence, but they're hard to track down... so like freeform but with a referee judging hits and misses

Okay, I'll post up a character and see how it goes.

I POAST CHARACTER.

I like the making up silly character much much more than the actually using them.

I applaud your performance. Now I want to make even more silly characters. Gods, what have we gotten ourselves into?

No worries, if we never actually use them, we don't qualify as RPfags!

I've got ideas for at least 3 more characters in my head. They're not all silly ridiculous though. Well, one is. But whatever. I think once I have them up, people can use them if they want. You know, if there's people here.

[Almost-not tangential] One gripe I have with a character database is, well technically it's something nick has expounded on even further; that all equipment has to be quantified, named, etc, which doesn't allow for flexibility. Now, say I wanted to make a "Nobi" character, who more or less is some kind of SpecOps guy. But duels/RP's can take place in any setting, and sometimes he just wouldn't make sense anymore if, say, we were in a Medieval setting where TACTICOOL and guns don't even exist. And his OPERATOR wouldn't do much against a SPEHS MEHREEEN.

Of course, I could abstract everything to be really generic, by listing stuff like "Ranged Weapon, Silent, Medium Magazine by Setting Standards," "Close Combat Weapon," but I like being descriptive so that kinda vaugeness bothers me. I'd much rather say it's just a SOCOM and survival knife, or whatever.

When I make themed characters it doesn't matter much. But when it's something versatile; like our DKO characters, it becomes trickier.

'Kay, I'm done bitching now. I'm gonna go home and then wait for my hard drive to arrive in the mail.

That's why I'm going to create a bunch of characters who's backgrounds I have no personal investment in.
